The Norfolk Tasting Panel organise the Cask Beer of the Year and Bottled Beer of the Year competitions, and are responsible for contributing tasting notes to the CAMRA brewery information system, Pilgrim, for use in the Good Beer Guide.
All Norfolk-brewed beers are eligible for Cask Beer of the Year, but as beers as tasted in pubs, it’s not possible for the panel to taste every beer from every brewery, and if a brewery’s beers aren’t widely available in Norwich pubs, they may not receive sufficient scores to qualify.
Breweries submit beers for the Bottled Beer of the Year, across all the CAMRA styles. These are then judged, style by style, over a period of around six months at tastings organised by Panel members, usually in their homes, or gardens where the weather is good enough!
If you’d like to join the Tasting Panel, training is available in how to taste beer, and in the Norwich & District Branch, tastings are held regularly throughout the year, mostly in pubs in Norwich.
